The most important thing to remember when creating a product no matter what it is, is to make something that people will continue to want to use. You always want to be more innovative, and more useful than your competitors. So, I agree that you want to mix all of the ideas, that the book mentioned. Keeping ahead of the rest of the "pack" is the most important thing you can do. You want to have a simple design that most everyone can understand, but you also want to have something that is new and more convenient. In whatever you design, you have to make sure that there is some reason that everyone would want to use your product. Now a days, it has been combining different technologies, like cell phones, cameras, mp3 players, internet, and even GPS all into one. Just keep one step ahead of your competitors.

Very true, but also what if you thought about keyboards? We all have to use them and they are starting to become a pain really. They get dirty, broke, and can just be something that no one want to have on their desk at times. Granted that it is something that we need to have to interact with computers but I think it is about time for a new approach to the key board. There are many different versions out there, some even roll up (and break a lot). Not only should one keep in front of their competitors but also try to make it more for the user rather than with the best technology.

I like your point on producing a product people will want to continue to use. The products that really know what they are doing are ones that people buy once and then shortly after have to buy something else for that product. For example, anything that runs out and needs to be refilled. Like those glade plug in things. You buy the thing that plugs into the wall but then once one scent runs out, you have to go buy another one. Those are the products that really have potential to make a lot of profit.

I like how you try and put everything into one product. thats really what i want in life. one product that will perform all the tasks i need it to GPS, Phone calls, TXT, gaming and etc. the iphone is getting close but it needs to be more polished before i get one. and less expensive :)

Convenience is exactly what sells the iPhone. No longer do you need to be inconvenienced by carrying a phone, a camera, an mp3 player, etc.. It's all in one device now, which is what people were wishing for at one point. Now that it's here, there are more and more innovations and other companies releasing their own version with new features. I guess just go for the most convenient and innovative design, but I guess that's easier said than done.

I have seen cell phones in Japan where they mix all the features such as TV, GPS (friends can find their friends by using GPS on their cell phone), Camera, MP3 player, Wi-Fi, Electric money, Electric key, QR code reader, PDF reader, etc. I think it is good to have everything in one place, but at the same time, it worries me because if you lose your cell phone, you lose everything.

You gotta think about life expectancy of your new product as well, because three months after you release it there will be technology out there that is twice as good.
