Scott Loy- Proposal

The book was talking about how "the internet will move from behind computer monitors and into the objects and buidlings all around us". This also concerns me because of the direction that country is going because the government is putting their hand into more and more things. One thing that is does not have its hand in, is the internet. When it was talking about RFID chips, I have a concern because you can use those to track items, and/or people. It is a possibility that those devices might have to registered with the government and that is not appealing to me one bit. I don't like the idea of people knowing everything about me and knowing where I am, and what I buy. I especially do not want the government knowing these things about me.

When the book mentioned that traffic maps could sense the traffic conditions based on the information coming from cars, that made me worry a bit. There would have to be some sort of device that tells the program of where and how fast you are traveling. I do not think this would be a good idea. I would not want to tracked of where I am going and how fast I am driving. It reminds me of Big Brother. I don't want people to be able to track where I am going and how fast I am driving. That is a concern to me because people can use that information for other things that I do not even know about.

I liked the section on voice-controlled interfaces. I think this is an area that hasn't realized its full potential yet. It may be a awhile until something comes along that will be very efficient but I like the idea of being able to talk to a computer in order to do things. I think it improve the effieciency of alot of things. Just think how easy it would be to write a paper just by talking to the computer and having spell everything right and use the right punctuation.

I think the personas and scenarios discussed in the book could turn out to be something that is very useful. It allows you to focus your work on specifics rather than just generalized things. It allows to design for a specific person or rather a type of person alot better than just saying the users, because you need to know how your users think in order to be able to create something that they would want to use.

In the book, it has that cartoon that says, "Then a miracle happens". I have never been one to believe in chance, or luck. I think that through successful research and having a good knowledge of something is the only way to create something that will be successful. You have to know what you are doing and where you are going before you can create something that will be at all successful. It might seem like a miracle at time but I do not believe so.

The most important thing to remember when creating a product no matter what it is, is to make something that people will continue to want to use. You always want to be more innovative, and more useful than your competitors. So, I agree that you want to mix all of the ideas, that the book mentioned. Keeping ahead of the rest of the "pack" is the most important thing you can do. You want to have a simple design that most everyone can understand, but you also want to have something that is new and more convenient. In whatever you design, you have to make sure that there is some reason that everyone would want to use your product. Now a days, it has been combining different technologies, like cell phones, cameras, mp3 players, internet, and even GPS all into one. Just keep one step ahead of your competitors.

I think in the near future, interaction design will change the way we do everything. If you look at the changes that have already been made then you can get an idea, but I believe even greater changes will be made. The iphone is a good example of this but I think even television will change alot in the near future. But this change, I do not think it will be bad. A lot of people think that people are becoming disconnected from each other because of the decline of "personal" communication. I think the contrary is happening. I think more people are becoming closer. Technology is allowing for people to become "closer" because it seems that people share more of their ideas, feelings, and their life in general through technology because the fear of "personal" communications has become less fearful for alot of people. Through something like facebook, and myspace, you can tell alot about a person that you might not know very well. Through the pictures and videos people upload to the profiles that people maintain. You can get to know someone without having to spend alot of time with that person. So i guess, my idea is that the ever evolving interaction design is only a good thing.
